Final Answer
“The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed in majesty and armed with strength; indeed, the world is established, firm and secure.”
Today’s Text: Psalm 93 (Living Life Daily Devotional)
Words cannot really do justice to the majesty and power of God. As the Psalm says, “the world is established, firm and secure,” and it is so, because God made it so. How fortunate we are that the LORD God Almighty is a benevolent God. How terrible it would be for us if God were evil. How terrible it would be for us if God did not reign over all things. We would have no hope for any good thing.
Indeed, our triune God is all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present, and eternal, and the LORD our God reigns.
It’s interesting to me that the brightest minds in the earth keep looking for what holds the universe together. Why does all matter act in the way that it does? And every time they discover something new, a new mystery is revealed. Another “why” question emerges.
Asking why something is the way it is, at progressively deeper levels, is a strategy that is used in business problem solving. Actually, that strategy is useful in all problem solving.
But when it comes to the Christian faith, the chain of “why”s stops with one final answer: The glory of God. Everything that God does, everything that exists, everything that happens is ultimately for His glory.
Of course, that reality can lead to some complicated philosophical and theological discussions, especially with respect to the existence and the experience of evil. However, we must never be so arrogant and naive as to suppose that we can figure out and understand the ultimate cause and purpose of all things.
God had been so gracious in telling us directly through His word. If the LORD God Almighty, who created the universe, wants to have a relationship with us (there would be no hope for us if He did not), then why would He lie?
If the LORD God Almighty, who created the universe, wants to have a relationship with us (there may as well be no God, or God may as well be evil), then there can only be one source for truth.
The bottom line for all reality and truth can be summarized as follows: Jesus is Lord, for the glory of God!
Father, You are the Maker and Creator of heaven and earth. You know all things. You are in all places. You have no end, and You reign over all things and hold the entire universe in order so that we do not fly off into chaos. Be merciful to us because we are proud and arrogant. Show us Your power and show us Your love in Christ Jesus so that we may bear witness to the world that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
