The LORD wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.

He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind.

He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants.

He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.

You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.
— Psalm 104:2-6

Today’s Text: Psalm 104:1-9 (Living Life Daily Devotional)

This world is so beautiful. And life itself is quite supernatural. How is it that living, breathing life can form out of atoms? it is truly the most mysterious thing.

The word of God reveals that “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth,” as well as all the living creepy, crawly, swimming, flying, walking, running things on it. That’s just mind-blowing.

God created this universe in perfect balance. When things get unbalanced, somehow God, in His sovereign power, keeps things in balance.

There was a time when the people in China were aborting girls, because boys, in their estimation, were more “valuable.” When that behavior was making news, almost everyone I knew here in the US was giving birth to girls. … I know, that’s totally anecdotal with no evidence to back it up. At the very least, though, God was reminding me through my own experience of His balancing power.

Here’s another one—one that may hit close to home for some. There seems to be less and less cases of children born with downs syndrome. Of course, that is because of the testing that is done during pregnancy to check for it. Many women will choose to abort the baby if the test comes back positive. At the same time, the number of autistic children being born seems to be on the rise.

Again, that is totally anecdotal with no evidence to support it. And again, my own experience reminds me personally that God doesn’t like it when humanity plays God with human life.

And yet, God has given us this world to have dominion over it. To use it for the the flourishing of humankind. How sad is it that we have enough food to feed everyone, and we have enough energy to power the world, but selfishness and greed creates a world of haves and have-nots.

When Jesus comes back, there will be a final reckoning of haves and have-nots. For my part, through faith, I plan to be on the side of those who have and can enjoy the creation the God makes for us.

Father, all glory, honor, and power are Yours. Thank You for the beauty of this creation that You have given to us, but forgive us for making a mess of it. Raise up Your church to have understanding on the stewardship we have for this earth and for human life. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
