Read Acts 9:10-19: Have someone read the text aloud slowly to the House Church. Have a quiet moment for a minute after reading the passage so people can take time to reflect.

Main Idea: Part of being a disciple means surrendering every aspect of our lives to Jesus, even when the path He leads us on may seem difficult or unclear.

1. THE CALLING ACKNOWLEDGED (v. 10-12)

   The first step towards a surrendered life is recognizing Jesus as Lord. When God called Ananias, his immediate response was, “Yes, Lord.” Through this response, Ananias acknowledged that Jesus was his supreme authority. As disciples, surrender means more than simply believing in Jesus as our Savior. It means completely submitting our plans, priorities, actions, and every area of our lives to His authority. Before we can follow where Jesus leads, we must recognize that He is Lord over every aspect of our lives.
   

2. THE CONCERNS EXPRESSED (v. 13-14)
   Surrender does not mean that we will never experience fear, doubt, or concern. Ananias was understandably afraid because Saul had a reputation for persecuting Christians. He even expressed his concerns directly to Jesus. Yet Ananias saw Saul’s past while God knew Saul’s purpose. God’s plan was greater than Ananias’ limited understanding. In the same way, there may be many moments when we do not understand why God is leading us in a particular direction. We may have legitimate concerns or questions. But surrender means trusting God even when we cannot see the whole picture.
   

3. THE COMMITMENT DEMONSTRATED (v. 15-19)
   When one is truly surrendered, it becomes visible through his or her obedience. After God commanded Ananias to go, Ananias obeyed the Lord. He did not understand the whole story but he took the next step God has given him. He even called Saul, “Brother Saul,” demonstrating that he trusted what God had said, that He had a purpose for Saul. We may not know what comes next but we can trust the God who does and take the next step of obedience by faith.
