Declare the Gospel

Read Luke 2:10-14: Have someone read the text aloud slowly to the House Church. Have a quiet moment for a minute after reading the passage so people can take time to reflect.

Main Idea: We must declare the good news of the redemption we have through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, which brings peace and joy to all people

Summary of Text: An angel appears to the shepherds in the field and tells them not to be afraid because the angel is bringing good news of great joy for all people. This good news is that a Savior has been born in Bethlehem. He is the Messiah and the Lord. The shepherds are given a sign that they will find the baby wrapped in cloth and lying in a manger. It is at this moment that a multitude of angels appear, praising God and declaring glory to God in heaven and peace on earth to those who receive His favor.

Application: There are three actions taken by the angel that we ought to follow:

  1. DECLARES THE GOOD NEWS: If the angel had not shared the message, the shepherds would not have heard about the Savior. In the same way, people today cannot hear the gospel unless someone tells them. Therefore, we are called to go and share the good news so that others may hear and believe.

  2. DEFINES THE GOOD NEWS: The good news is that Jesus is born as Savior and Lord. This is the essence of the gospel message that we have redemption through Christ who died for our sins and rose again. Jesus defeated sin at His death and defeated death at His resurrection, offering salvation and eternal life to all who believe.

  3. DELIGHTS IN THE GOOD NEWS: The gospel brings great joy and worship to those that follow Christ. We should praise and glorify our Lord because salvation has come. May others see our delight in the gospel.

Discussion Question: Who is one person in your life that needs to hear the good news and what is one step you can take to share it with them?
