Identity of Christ

READ John 1:1-5, 14
Have someone read the text aloud slowly to the House Church. Have a quiet moment for a minute after reading the passage so people can take time to reflect.

MAIN IDEA
Jesus is the eternal God who became human to reveal, redeem, and relate with us, so our response to Him must be complete and total surrender.

SUMMARY OF SERMON

  1. Who He Is (The Eternal Word)
Jesus is not created. He is eternal, fully divine, and the Creator of all things. Jesus is God. John makes it clear that Christ existed before time and is distinct yet one with the Father. Understanding this identity shapes how we respond to Him.

  2. What He Did (The Word Became Flesh)
Jesus took on human nature without ceasing to be God, entering our broken world to reveal God’s character and redeem sinners. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus provided atonement for sin. Because He became like us, in the flesh, He fully understands our struggles and meets us with grace.

  3. Where He is (Dwelling Among Us)
Jesus didn’t just come for a moment in history, He continues to dwell with His people. Through the Holy Spirit, God’s presence is not distant but actively within believers. We are never alone, abandoned, or without His presence.

APPLICATION
If Jesus truly is who John declares Him to be, then our response cannot remain casual. This truth calls us to examine how we actually live. Do our priorities, decisions, and attributes reflect our faith that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh? When we grasp His true identity correctly, it clarifies and transforms not just what we believe, but how we live, how we speak, how we follow Him daily.

DISCUSSION QUESTION
If your daily life revealed what you truly believe about Jesus, what would it say about who He is to you?
