Purpose-Driven Leadership
MAIN IDEA
God burdens ordinary people to lead with purpose by seeking Him first, sharing His vision with others, and standing firm in faith despite opposition.
NEHEMIAH SOUGHT GOD FIRST
When Nehemiah learned that Jerusalem was still in ruins, his first response was not to act immediately but to turn to God in prayer, seeking His wisdom and direction. When God places a burden on our hearts, we must bring it to Him first instead of rushing into our own plans. May we begin our leadership on our knees before the throne of God, asking Him for wisdom, guidance, and direction.
NEHEMIAH SHARED GOD’S PURPOSE
After God answered Nehemiah’s prayers and opened doors through the king, he shared the vision with the people by pointing out how “the gracious hand of God was upon him.” He did not present the vision as his personal idea or ambition but as God’s work. This united the people and moved them to start rebuilding. When God gives us a burden, we must invite others into it by testifying to what God has done. It is not about us but it is about God alone.
NEHEMIAH STOOD IN FAITH
As soon as the work to rebuild Jerusalem began, Nehemiah faced opposition from the enemies of God. Instead of being discouraged, he boldly declared his trust in God by saying, “The God of heaven will give us success.” He stayed focused on God’s calling and did not allow opposition to derail his obedience to what God had burdened him to do. When we face opposition, let us respond with faith, knowing that obedience to God matters more than the approval of others.
DISCUSSION QUESTION
What burden has God placed on your heart right now, and how can you seek Him first, share His purpose with others, and stand firm in faith even when you face discouragement or opposition?
