Fully Persuaded

Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.
— Romans 4:19-22

Today’s Text: Romans 4:18-25 (Living Life Daily Devotional)

Am I “fully persuaded” that God has “power to do what He has promised?”

I have hope that God has “power to do what He has promised.” But being “fully persuaded” of that truth must be manifested in my daily living.

Since I became saved, I hold onto the sure promises of God in two areas: in His word and in His calling for me into pastoral ministry. But to be completely honest, there have been times when I have wavered in faith in both areas.

I have held onto the hope of my salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. I don’t know what my life would be like without that hope. What alternative is there? A lesser religion that has no answer for the sin in this world and in my heart? Atheism and a life of utter meaninglessness? Without holding onto hope in Christ Jesus, there is only hopelessness. What kind of life is that?

But to walk a life of unwavering faith like Abraham did, that is another matter altogether. Is the power of Jesus’s resurrection so real in my life that I can confidently say,

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
— Galatians 2:20

???

However, even in my wavering faith, the life of Abraham offers me great hope. For Abraham was a man of wavering faith—even when he hoped in the promises of God—for many years. And God did not ask him to sacrifice Isaac before his faith in God’s promise was complete.

Father, You are the source of my faith. You are the Author of my salvation. Grow my faith, Lord. And I ask that knowing that You will test my faith. You have tested my faith Lord. Let me be fully persuaded that you have the power to do what You promise. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
