Marathon of Faith

Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.
— Psalm 117:1-2

Today’s Text: Psalm 117:1-118:7 (Living Life Daily Devotional)

The psalmist repeatedly reminds us that God’s love is both faithful and enduring forever. His love is not temporary or only for a season, it is steadfast and eternal. Because God is faithful over the long haul, He calls His people to remain faithful over the long haul as well.

It seems that in our culture today, everything is expected to happen quickly. We live in a "fast-food" society where results are expected immediately. One thing I learned from the North American Shepherds Conference is that God’s kingdom values faithful endurance and perseverance in the gospel. Sometimes we may see results quickly, and sometimes the fruit comes much later. Yet ministry (and the Christian life as a whole) is not a sprint but a marathon. Every day we choose to trust Christ, obey His Word, love God, love others, and persevere through trials is a day of faithful discipleship.

One of the pastors at the conference wisely said, "Longevity is productivity in God’s economy." I believe what he meant is that faithfulness over time produces lasting fruit. The believers who often make the greatest impact are not those who burn the brightest for a brief moment, but those who faithfully walk with Christ for decades. It is a lifetime of obedience that leaves an eternal legacy.

Whether we are in a season of joy or distress, we must remember the psalmist’s confidence, "When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid." (Psalm 118:5–6)

May we continue to trust in Him, faithfully serve Him, and praise Him each day. God’s steadfast love will sustain us through every step of our spiritual journey, and as we persevere in Him, He will bear lasting fruit through our lives for His glory.
