Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.

Save us and help us with your right hand, that those you love may be delivered.
— Psalm 108:5-6

Today’s Text: Psalm 108 (Living Life Daily Devotional)

I am sick to death of sickness and death. I long for the day when the trials and tribulations and the tragedies of this world will be no more—not just for myself, but for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord.

But what about those people who do not call on the name of the Lord? Well, I pray that they may know Him and be known by Him and call on His name, too, so that they may share in the same longing and hope.

There is not enough space here for a defense of the Christian faith. But it is worth noting that everyone pretty much wants the same thing. Deep down, everyone wants the end of all negative suffering, at least for themselves. And more than that, deep down, everyone wants happiness, at least for themselves. And more than that, who would not want happiness and the end of all suffering for all eternity? And that is the promise and the hope of Christian faith.

Some people may think that all religions are the same in that regard, but they’re really not. People who believe that are really just making up their own religion. They take bits and pieces of different religions, the parts that they like, and then, voila! A new religion.

People who think that all religions are the same are basically just atheists trying to be “spiritual.” They don’t believe in truth as an objective reality. They believe that they are free to make up their own truth. Of course, that is how every cult gets started.

Some people might agree and say that is how all religions get started, including Christianity. But here’s the thing. If there is a Creator God, who desires to be known and glorified over all the earth, then there can only be one revelation of Himself that is true.

If that were not the case, we would never be able to know who He is at all. How cruel would that be?

But God is not cruel. God is Love. And so when we have to face sickness and even death, we cry out, “Save us and help us!” And our God will deliver us. He has delivered me time and time again. And I know that my God will continue to deliver me, even in death, because of Jesus Christ, and what He has done for me.

Beautiful Savior, what can I do
But lift up my voice and say, “Thank You!”

“Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.”

Father, You are good, and You are love. What is humanity that You would be mindful of us? Who am I that You would be mindful of me? I cannot comprehend. But I will not reject Your love. Help me to know You more, so that my entire heart, soul, strength, and mind would glorify You. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
